The VirtualBox error “VM Session was closed before any attempt to power it on” usually occurs when the user shuts down the host machine without shutting down the VM guest machine first.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Method 1.<\/span> Discard VM’s Saved State<\/span><\/h5>\n\n\n\n

To do that:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1.<\/strong> Right click on the Virtual Machine and select Discard Saved State<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

2.<\/strong>\u00a0Then try to\u00a0start<\/strong>\u00a0the virtual machine. If the problem persists, continue to the next method below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Method 2. Uninstall and Re-Install VirtualBox<\/span><\/h5>\n\n\n\n

The next method to solve the “VM session session was closed before any attempt to power it on” problem in VirtualBox, is to uninstall and then to reinstall the VirtualBox application, especially if the problem appeared after a Windows Update.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1.<\/strong>\u00a0Go to Control Panel & Uninstall VirtualBox. (Don’t worry, the VMs will stay untouched).
2.<\/strong>\u00a0Reboot your computer.
3.<\/strong>\u00a0Download\u00a0latest version of VirtualBox<\/a>.
4.<\/strong>\u00a0Right click on the downloaded file and click “Run As Administrator”.
5.<\/strong>\u00a0Follow the on screen prompts to install VirtualBox.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

6.<\/strong>\u00a0After installation, reboot your computer.
7.<\/strong>\u00a0Open VirtualBox manager and start your Virtual Machine.
8.<\/strong>\u00a0If the Virtual Machine opens fine, then proceed to install the Guest Additions and the\u00a0Extension Pack<\/a>\u00a0(if needed).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
